What is a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) |

The Energy Performance Certificate is broadly
similar to the certificates found on many
domestic appliances.
A Certificate for a building gives the building an
asset rating based on its energy efficiency, but
doesn't take into account how the home is used
by the occupiers. The Certificate will give the
building a rating from A to G. An A rating shows it's
very efficient, meaning lower fuel bills, while G is
inefficient, meaning higher fuel bills. The
Certificate will also show the building's
environmental impact by indicating its carbon-
dioxide emissions. |

How long does an EPC inspection take to carry out? Typically they are taking approximately
1-2 hours for medium sized properties, but these timings will depend on the complexity of
the property rather than the size. Homes with multiple extensions tend to be more time
consuming than squarer, more standard properties. |

The role of the Domestic Energy Assessor is to produce Energy Performance Certificates for
inclusion in Home Information Packs. These certificates, like fridges, will provide A - G
ratings on the energy efficiency of a home, plus advice on how to make further energy
savings. Energy Assessors require in-depth knowledge and practical understanding of the
energy efficiency of properties. |
